Noosa was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2007.  Biosphere Reserves are internationally designated and protected areas that demonstrate a balanced relationship between people and nature. There are 669 biosphere reserves in 120 countries. Noosa is one of only two in Queensland.

Getting around in Noosa

A  local ferry  www.noosaferry.com is a fabulous way to get from The Islander Noosa Resort to either Hastings Street and Main Beach, or to Noosa Marina www.noosamarina.com.au at Tewantin. It is a peaceful, scenic ride, and kids are encouraged to have a go at tooting the ferry whistle!

Sunday morning, take the family for yums and local produce to the Noosa Farmers Market www.noosafarmersmarket.com.au  on Weyba Road, Noosa Heads every Sunday from 7.00am – Midday. You will find a wide selection of locally grown produce at the Noosa Farmers Market.

Scenic & National Parks

Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the Noosa National Park www.parks.des.qld.gov.au/parks/noosa/about & take in the breathtaking views of the headlands & rocky outcrops or surf one of the breaks on offer at National Park, Tea Tree, Granite & Alexandria Bays.

Otherwise soak up the sun and enjoy a swim at one of the many secluded beaches on offer.

Visit Fraser Island, the 8th wonder of the world. Be escorted by a Ranger on a daytrip where you are met at the resort. Explore the world’s biggest sand island and swim in the crystal clear lakes, surf the white sand and see dingoes and wild brumbies. Take a leisurely drive and visit the hinterland.   Walk the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve mary-cairncross.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au , open 9am to 4pm most days and enjoy a family outing that’s fun  and educational, too.  Visit Mapleton Falls and stand on the platform over the escarpment high above Obi Obi rainforest and continue to walk through the national park to the Wompoo Circuit and spot the Peregrine Falcon or listen  for the birdsongs of the Wompoo Fruit Dove.

If you are a bird watcher visit Kondalilla National Park home to 107 bird species and the Pouched Frog. Walking trails range from moderate and hard and remember to wear sturdy boots and be prepared.
